Fresno State-Nevada Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Jeff Tedford
On the game…..
“It is a win and that is always what is important. To go on the road against a conference opponent, Nevada played really hard, really well. They really did a nice job against our run, we really could not get anything going. We got stuck in a lot of long-yardage situations. We did not play our best offensively and thought our defense played well and kept them out of the end zone.
On the running game…..
“Nevada played really hard and there were not a lot of places to go. We will go back and take a look at it and get better.”
On Ronnie Rivers returning….
“It is nice having Ronnie back and creates some more depth for us. We always talk about how many bodies we have and it is a long season and you get guys banged up and it is always a nice luxury to have some depth.”
On preparing for Nevada backup quarterback Christian Solano….
“We try to defend their offense and he made a lot of plays with his legs and converting third downs and keeping the chains moving. The second half we had to change our game plan a little bit to what it was last week against a running quarterback. He competed really hard and made some nice plays with his legs.”
On starting conference play 1-0….
“That’s always important. You come on the road like this and it’s cold, rain. There was not a lot of energy and we have to learn to bring our own energy to the game. It’s always nice to get a win and wins are hard to come by and Nevada is a really good football team and they are going to win a lot of games this year. It feels good to come away with a victory to open it up, but we have a lot of work to do and if we are going to compete each week, we have to play better on offense than we did tonight.”
Jeff Allison, Linebacker, Junior
On the play of his defense…
“I’m very proud of the defense. We were going against a very good offense who puts up a lot of points so keeping them to three is a great accomplishment. Overall we still have some things to fix especially at the end of the game.”
On facing Christian Solano…
“We didn’t know if he was going to play or not but we tried to treat him just like (Ty Gangi) because (Nevada) recruits the same kind of guys. We tried to treat him kind of like the quarterback from Toledo because they’re both runners and are elusive.”
On the defense having to hold the lead throughout the game…
“We live for the pressure. We live for the adversity. That will only make us better. When you’re going against a good team like that, you have to step up. Defense wins championships. That’s what we’re trying to focusing on every day.”
Ronnie Rivers, Running Back, Sophomore
On getting back into the end zone…
“It felt great, especially on that goal line in a close game, the offensive line did a great job and I just found the hole.”
On being able to produce for the offense…
“It felt great to make some plays for our offense. Even though we didn’t do what we wanted to do, we got the job done.”
