Fresno State-Air Force Postgame Quotes
Fresno State at Air Force
Falcon Stadium
Oct. 12, 2019
Coach Tedford, Fresno State head coach
Opening statement
“We have to give Air Force a lot of credit, they pretty much dominated us. We couldn’t get off the field defensively. The first half, we hung in there. The second half, we couldn’t get off the field or sustain drives on offense. They used a lot of clock in the second half. We have to give them credit, they did a phenomenal job and executed really well. We couldn’t stop them all night.”
On facing the triple option…
“They are very good at what they do; they eat a lot of clock, the running backs run really well, they do a lot on the perimeter. You have to give them all of the credit in the world. They played really well. That is a team that, if they are clicking on all cylinders like that, they are very difficult to stop. When they eat as much clock as they do, it is very difficult to keep up with them and you pretty much have to score every time you have the ball.”
On Air Force…
“We give them all the credit in the world. They are a very veteran team – all juniors and seniors. They have been playing for a long time, they are very well-coached and they dominated us tonight.”
On the run game…
“In the first half, we were doing just fine. We were throwing it efficiently and we were very efficient in what we were doing. In the second half, we didn’t spend too much time trying to run the ball. We will go back and work this week. We have a new opponent next week and we will do our best to rebound.”
On coming home to host UNLV…
“It is always nice to come home. It is a short week so we will have to heal up here in the next couple of days after this physical game. We look forward to a game against UNLV as we come back home.”
Jorge Reyna, Fresno State senior quarterback
On the Air Force defense…
“We had a good game plan. We had a lot of good takes on film, however, we didn’t execute. We failed at that.”
On the mindset at halftime…
“The biggest thing was to finish, and apparently we didn’t finish. That is something we need to really work on. It starts with me. As a leader, we are judged by two rules - did you accomplish the mission? And did you take care of your teammates? We didn’t accomplish the mission so we have to get back to the drawing board.”
On the loss…
“All losses are tough. This one hurts. It is conference play so it affects us a little bit more. We have a short week this week so we need to hurry and flush this out and get ready for UNLV.”
On the atmosphere…
“We had some practice at New Mexico State, so we had some experience with how it would be. It was a great atmosphere. The elevation didn’t really bother us too much.”
Looking ahead…
“We aren’t worried about the next seven games, we are worried about the next one. Right when we get on the plane, our focus is on UNLV. We will watch tape, dissect them and be ready for Friday.”
Mykal Walker, Fresno State senior linebacker
On his thoughts on the game…
“It was disappointing. We didn’t play our brand of football. We didn’t come out here and do what we were supposed to do. We talked for the last two weeks about how we needed to be perfect out here. We knew our job responsibilities but we didn’t do our jobs out here.”
On facing the triple option offense….
“I feel like we had a good scheme set up against them. We knew what they were going to run. We just didn’t get it done.”
On conference…
“We need to look at ourselves before we start looking at anything else. It was embarrassing. The way we played tonight was not good and it is not the way that we play football here. Our goals are still ahead of us. We were all talking in the locker room, we know we need to keep our heads up and stay together. We are going to make a run for this thing.”
