- Fresno State played its first game since UCS (Sept. 17) with captains Jake Haener (QB) and Evan Williams (DB), and senior wide receiver Josh Kelly. The three have been out with injury since Week 3.
- Fresno State completed a fourth quarter comeback against San Diego State, it was the most points scored in the fourth quarter since 2019.
- Fresno State had its first successful onside kick recovery since Sept. 19, 2015 against Utah).
- Fresno State has had a 100-yard receiver in back-to-back games for the second time this season, and it was the first time the Bulldogs had two receivers with 100-yards since Sept. 24, 2021 against UNLV.
- Fresno State’s defense had its most turnovers in a game (5) since Oct. 16, 2021 at Wyoming.
- Fresno State’s offense gave up 7.0 sacks, its most in a game this season.
- Fresno State finished with -3 yards rushing in the game. It was the first time since Dec. 24, 2012 that the Bulldogs’ offense finished with negative rushing yards.
- Fresno State moves to 4-4 on the season, and 3-1 in conference play. The Bulldogs are 3-1 to start conference play for the third-straight season.
- Fresno State kept the Old Oil Can for the second-straight season for the first time since the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
- Fresno State has won three-straight games, its longest streak since the final three games of the 2021 season.
- With a win over San Diego State, the Bulldogs are still in the driver's seat to the Mountain West Championship game.
Offense
- QB Jake Haener earned his first start since Sept. 17 at USC, making his return from a lower leg injury suffered during that game.
- Haener recorded his 15th career 300-yard passing game. He is five shy of Derek Carr’s program’s record.
- Haener moved into sixth on Fresno State’s career touchdowns list with 54, passing Trent Dilfer.
- Haener moved into fourth in career completions with 588, passing Mark Barsotti, Billy Volek, Tom Brandstater and David Carr.
- WR Zane Pope had a season-high in receptions (10) and yards (143).
- Pope recorded his second career 100-yard receiving game on Saturday.
- Pope scored his first touchdown of the season, and first since facing Boise State (Nov. 6, 2021).
- Pope was the first Bulldog to record 10-plus receptions in a game since Jalen Moreno-Cropper against UNLV on Sept. 24, 2021.
- Pope had a career-high game, also registering the recovery on the onside kick and converting the two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. Pope recovered Fresno State’s first onside kick since Michael Martens against Utah on Sept. 19, 2015.
- WR Nikko Remigio caught his second touchdown reception of his Bulldog career.
- Zane Pope (143) and Nikko Remigio (126) are the first Bulldog duo to record 100 yards receiving in the same game since Jalen Cropper and Keric Wheatfall on Sept. 24, 2021.
Defense
- DB Evan Williams earned his first start since Sept. 17 at USC, making his return from a knee injury suffered during that game.
- In his first game back, Williams finished second on the team with eight tackles.
- DB Cam Lockridge recorded his first interception as a Bulldog, and his fourth interception as an FBS player (at Hawai'i). He had four as a junior college player at Reedley College.
- LB Malachi Langley had his first career 10-tackle game, finishing the night with a career-high 12 tackles (four solo).
- DB Carlton Johnson saw the first game action of his career, coming back from an injury suffered this summer.
- Johnson secured the game-winning interception off of the Aztecs in the fourth quarter.
- DL Johnny Hudson Jr. had a career-high five tackles.
- DB Kosi Agina tied his career-high in tackles (4), all coming on special teams.
- DL David Perales had his first forced fumble of the season, and the eighth of his career.
- Perales recorded Fresno State’s only sack of the game. With that sack, he has officially entered the Top 10 in program history for most sacks in a career. He is up to 18.5 in his career.
- NKL Morice Norris Jr. had a career-high eight tackles.
