Fresno State-Morgan State Postgame Quotes
Justin Hutson, Fresno State Head Coach
On the play of Isaiah Hill and Donavan Yap Jr....
"I think Zay [Isaiah Hill] had a great floor game. I believe he had seven assists and the one turnover, I think that's two games in a row he’s played that way. I'm glad to see Donavan get aggressive, it was a broken four-type situation and Don is really good in the broken post."
On what led to the guards' success…
"Donavan really excels in the broken floor when he’s aggressive like that and he can put that ball in there. I wish we would’ve seen his shot exposure a little more, he never misses it, he’s got confidence in his 3-point shot. Zay is just playing the game easy. "He's playing it the right way so he’s going to have success because he’s making good decisions."
On new pieces…
"They are definitely better decision makers and finishers. As the competition stiffens we just have to continue to get better and we have to let our defense get us out a little bit more in transition. We have to work on that where we can put our hands on balls."
On impact from Taveras these last few games…
"He’s going to make an impact for us because he’s got a toughness about him. He’s wild as the wind at times and we’re going to let him be that way a tad bit and he’s going to get better. I thought he made some nice decisions tonight and he’s going to battle you."
On strong defense of the first half…
"A lot of times we’re really strong on defense in the first half, and we’ve got to start turning that into two halves. A lot of times we’re up in pressure in the front of the bench and we’re attentive and following the scout. We’ve got to try to take that down to the other end if we’re going to be good."
On Isaiah Hill playing all 40 minutes…
"I just liked how he was playing the game. We’re going to need another floor general and he’s not going to be able to do that all the time, but I just liked how he was playing the game."
On Isaiah Hill’s progression as a player…
"Mature. His biggest attribute is his maturity. He put a lot of work in on his body and his game in the summer but more about your mind. He’s just maturing into a man and he’s starting to feel more confident because he’s seeing the game. As the games get even tougher, I expect him to get even tougher too.
Isaiah Hill, Guard, Senior
On his assist numbers going up...
"I think just studying the game a little bit more this year and knowing where people will be. It helps when people aren’t shooting the ball on the x. Last year we made too many three’s."
On scoring his 1,000th point as a Bulldog...
"I'm just blessed to be in this position. Just thanks to God because without him I wouldn’t be here. I'm blessed to hit that but more importantly we win some games."
Donavan Yap Jr., Guard, Senior
On his success…
"Just sticking with it, my confidence in myself, coach puts confidence in me and my teammates especially Isaiah Hill. They're always encouraging me and uplifting me. That really just allows me to be confident."
