Fresno State-Pacific Postgame Quotes
Justin Hutson, Fresno State Head Coach
On what was working offensively tonight…
“I actually thought when we played Santa Barbara in here we shared the ball too, but we just missed them. It's not always the same. If you sat in here last week you would have heard me say we made bad decisions. I thought we made good decisions tonight and they went in. Zay (Isaiah Hill) said the same thing, he gets more assists because guys can finish at the rim and guys can make shots. We're judging defensive decisions and sometimes your shot comes and goes but we think we've got some pretty good shooters if we can get those types of looks.”
On Leo Colimerio’s game offensively tonight…
“We've been pushing Leo to be where he's supposed to be on the offensive end; whether that's cutting, whether that's facing in the corner, whether that's going to rebound. We've been pushing him running the floor so we've been pushing him to use his athleticism on that side of the ball, not just be a three-part shooter but there's ways that he can be a slasher and different ways and he did that tonight. Probably if he would’ve gotten more minutes he would’ve gotten more.”
On the shots falling tonight in three point range…
“We got good looks tonight, so when you get good looks like that I expect these guys to make it. We're not always practicing in here in the Save Mart Center to get that feel for it yet. We've got a lot of new guys, but I thought they would go in the last time we were in here, but we just missed some. It's just point blank we’ve got to make them. We might not make 16 every night but if you give us those types of looks we’ll shoot the ball well.”
On whether he knew Paul George would be here tonight…
“I knew PG was going to be here. I've known him for a while and there's nobody better. He's just the most genuine man that you can meet, he really cares about the school, he really cares about the players, he's as sincere as you can be. Everybody in Fresno needs to be a huge Paul George fan because he gives a lot back to our guys with knowledge and care and just being a genuine good guy.”
On Paul George sharing with the players in the locker room post-game…
“He knows them and he spoke to them quite a bit this June so it was good for them to get to see him and the follow-up on his part. When he leaves and says in two days I'll be back and then the follow-up when he says something on his podcast about some of the guys and then now to follow up and come back to the game. I mean come on man, that guy's the greatest.”
On the team playing great in front of Paul George…
“I’m glad we played well while he was here because I think this team has a chance to be good, we're not there yet, but we talked about belief. There's too many new guys, we need to go back and play together but we believe we can be good, so I was glad he got a chance to see one of those games. I think that makes everybody feel good and sometimes that happens to you.”
On using the four home games as a launching point…
“They're all really important. They're all going to bring different challenges offensively and defensively. You're going to learn, you're going to have different game plans going in, different schemes, but the more that we can see the ball go in and play quality competition that’s going to help us.”
Xavier DuSell, Guard, Senior
On playing this game…
"Just being around a great group of guys, they found me tonight and I found the open spots that I like to get to. Finding the 3-point line, I just shoot the ball and I know the rest, thankfully, a couple went in tonight."
On his preparation for this game...
"I always prepare the same no matter the circumstances, I stay true to myself and I know what I’m capable of. I stay to my work and I always lean back on that no matter what."
Isaiah Hill, Guard, Senior
On Paul George being here…
"He told us in the group chat that he was coming to a game, we didn't know it was this one. I think it was the BYU game but he couldn’t make it. We knew he was going to come to a game this year. Shout out PG. We show up every night the same way, trying to win regardless if there's 10,000 people or 100. It doesn't make that much of a difference to us but obviously having an NBA all-star on the sideline, it's definitely a big boost. He stopped in [the locker room] and said some kind words and just showed his support to our team and this university. "
On the team's confidence…
"We're just trying to go 1-0 every game. We’re on a little bit of a winning streak right now but it doesn’t mean anything, we have to focus on the next one."
