Fresno State-Hawai'i Postgame Quotes
Interim Head Coach Tim Skipper
On the game…
“The biggest takeaway from this game is to finish. You have to finish. We had control for most of the game. We were doing what we wanted to do, but then we just stalled out and they took advantage of that. The key to the game was just to finish.”
On how much the targeting call against Cam Lockridge hurt the team…
“I think all of them added up, and we didn’t finish at the end. We obviously preach ‘no penalties’ and we had the 15-yard variety. We had too many of those, it wan’t just one guy. Those put you in tough situations. We had plenty of opportunities to finish the game. We just couldn’t do it. We stalled out on offense, and we couldn’t stop them on defense. They got the victory tonight.”
On the play of Phoenix Jackson…
“It looked like he played pretty well. He had a huge interception returned for a touchdown. Until I sit down and watch the film, I don’t know just how well he performed but he did come up with some big plays for us tonight.”
On Hawai’i’s defense stifling the offense in the second half…
“They dialed up the pressure on the quarterback. They won the one-on-one battles upfront, knocked us backward and made plays. They got TFLs when we were trying to run the ball and then pressure when we were trying to throw it. You have to tip your hat to them. They kept fighting. We had the momentum for most of the game, but they kept fighting.”
On having to turn this loss around and prep for Air Force…
“We are going to have to turn it around pretty quick and have a great Sunday. We have to get ready for an option team and that’s never easy. We are going to have to get our focus back and be ready to go. They are going to try to dominate the time of possession so when we have the ball, we have to put points up. We are going to have to take advantage of when we have the ball and then stop them. It’s going to be a time-possession battle.”
