Fresno State-San Diego Postgame Quotes
Vance Walberg, Head Coach
On breaking the losing streak…
"It feels great, I’ll be honest with you on that. We lost that one to Cal Baptist with the halftime half court shot and whatnot. Then you go to BYU, we were in Santa Clara and Palm Springs so to be able to come back home and get this, it’s nice. San Diego has already had nine home games, this is only our third so it’s nice to get it at home."
On the fans today…
"The crowd definitely helped us, I mean you go to BYU and they have 16-17 thousand there so that definitely helps them. Just having what we have here I really appreciate our fans."
On the team's shooting performance…
"Well I think 3-17 speaks for itself to be honest with you. I’m not going to lie, we've played 11 games so far and our three-point percentage is at 25 for the year. If you take a look at us it’ll be that free throw battle to make up how we don’t shoot. I think again tonight what was 25 percent. We made 18 and they made six free-throws which is one of the big things I want to hold onto moving forward. It would be nice to knock some shots down."
On Pierre Geneste Jr.…
"You have to know P [Pierre Geneste Jr.], P is one of those guys you ask him to play, he’ll give you 110 percent, he works his tail off. I’m so happy for him, to see him get more play. That’s just typical P, he had seven offensive rebounds. Offensive rebounds is effort, defensive rebounds a lot of time effort is more where the ball bounces. Offensive is more effort and that’s what P did."
On Alex Crawford…
"He’s got a lot of build in him, sometimes he sits back and waits to see what's going on and it was really good to see in the second half Alex say to himself “ I’m going to get myself in there and do some things,”. The more Alex can do, the better we are going to be."
Alex Crawford, F, Jr.
On the teams performance…
"I think we were really resilient. The first half we came out a little slow then the second half we came out really strong and right off the bat came out and punched them in the mouth, putting our foot on the gas. It was really our energy that kept that momentum going."
On his shooting…
"I feel like I could be more aggressive at times. I really like to float and play to the flow of the game and make reads off of that but if I have to attack I will attack and if I have the shot then I’m going to shoot it. I’m always going to play for my teammates also."
On the team's energy…
"The energy is really high right now and after ending a losing streak it is really good for us and we’re going to try and carry this momentum into the next game."
On conference play…
"I feel pretty good if we just keep building this momentum like we’re doing, we’re going to get better everyday in practice and we’ll be good when conference comes around."
Pierre Geneste, F, Jr.
On his mentality coming back…
"I haven’t played for a couple weeks after surgery, and there was a possibility I wouldn't be coming back because of the injury. I was just hungry to come back, I wanted to help the team."
On this win…
"It feels good because losing five games in a row but winning one that is important at home is something we can build off and get ready for conference."
On his finger during the game…
"Honestly I am in pain right now but when I was playing I didn’t feel anything because I had that adrenaline rush. Right now I just want to go home and rest."
On his blocks…
"It’s just natural, I always say, in sports only not in real life, I am naturally aggressive, I don't like people scoring on me and anytime someone got going, I'd take them out with a block."
On rebounding…
"They can’t stop me, if you want to box me out you’re going to have to send two to three people because I don’t care, I won't give up."
