Fresno State-Kansas Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Matt Entz
On the game…
“I know that we can play better football. I’ve seen it on the practice field. All the things that we tried to emphasize, the venue, the noise, protecting the football, being great on third down, all the little things were what weighed us down at times throughout the game. It’s a game of making plays or not making enough plays, and we didn’t make enough plays. Our good was good at times, but you can’t lose the turnover battle or have costly penalties. We can’t let one loss turn into two. We have to learn from this. I already like the messaging from the veterans in the locker room.”
On what needs to improve by next week…
“It’s all concerning when you’re coming off a loss. You have a million thoughts going through your head, but if I lose my composure then so will they. I told them that we have 11 more opportunities to become the best football team that we can. I don’t just believe in improvement from week one to week two, I believe in it all year long. Good football teams find ways to improve every single week. We have a process for that. That’s what we are building here. I told them that they are helping me build what’s going to be one of the best college football programs in the country.”
Jadon Pearson, Sr., LB
On the game…
“We had a lot of missed tackles and miscommunication, which are things that we can control. There’s always going to be stuff you’re going against that you didn’t see on film because it’s a week zero game, but Kansas came out swinging and we were on our heels for the rest of the game. The game started slowing down in the second half when we started doing what we needed to do. We only gave up seven points in the second half. We just need to focus on what we need to do as a defense.”
On the locker room after the game…
“No one is hanging their heads. Everyone is eager to get to the film room and get better, especially the defense. We feel like we put some bad stuff on tape and that’s not who the Bulldog defense is going to be this year. We’re going to attack this week. There’s no moping around or feeling sorry for ourselves. We’re going to get after it. We have 11 more opportunities.”
On wearing a Fresno State jersey for the first time…
“It was a tremendous honor. Especially with the brotherhood that we have in the locker room. It never wavered, no matter the score. I can’t wait for the home opener next week. That’s what I’m focused on now.”
