Fresno State equestrian head coach Eric Hubbard announced the addition of former Bulldog equestrian Sierra Swaffar to the staff as the newest jumping seat coach ahead of the 2022-23 season. Swaffar rode for the Bulldogs from 2014-18 in both the fences and the flat events.
2023-24
Swaffar had more success in year two, with another year having All-American talent on the roster in senior Sara Tuck. Swaffar coached Tuck to one of the top seasons in program history by a Bulldog flat rider, finishing with a 9-3-1 overall record and first team all-america and All-Big 12 honors. Tuck became the first Bulldog to earn first team All-America honors in the flat since Swaffar in 2015-16. She was the first Bulldog to earn first team all-america honors in any event since the 2019-20 season.
In addition to Tuck's success, Swaffar also coached up All-Big 12 talent in Olivia Ferro who had a 7-5-1 record in the fences.  Â
Collectively, the Bulldogs' jumping seat units combined for a 46-79-6 record. The flat and fences teams each had 23 wins on the season. The jumping seat teams totaled eight MOP honors with six in the flat and two in fences. The 'Dogs swept the jumping seat MOPs against TCU on Oct. 20, 2023.
2022-23
In her first season as the jumping seat assistant coach, the groups combined for a 43-70-4 overall record. The fences led the way with 23 wins, and flat added 20. For the first time in three seasons, Fresno State had a sweep in the flat. In the next meet, Fresno State swept its opponent in the fences for the first time since 2020.Â
Fresno State's only All-American from the 2022-23 season was Ana Bertozzi who earned the honors with a 10-2-0 record in the fences. Swaffar also coached up All-Big 12 Flat team selection Sara Tuck to a 7-4-1 record. Tuck set the program record with a 96 in the flat against then-No. 5 Oklahoma State on Mar. 4, 2023. Three of the flat's highest scores in program history were scored by riders in Swaffar's first season as assistant coach with the group.
COLLEGIATE RIDING CAREER
Swaffar left Fresno State as one of the most decorated jumping seat riders in Bulldog equestrian history, being one of only two Bulldogs in program history to be named a first team flat All-American. The 2015-16 season was a successful one for Swaffar in the arena, earning All-American honors and the United Equestrian Conference Flat Rider of the Year recognition.
In her four-year Bulldog career, Swaffar picked up 30 wins. She earned nine Most Outstanding Performer honors in the flat.
