Alan Nakamura begins his first season as an assistant coach in the 2024-25 season, his responsibilities at Fresno State will focus on recruitment in the Southern California area, development of the guards, specifically perimeter players.
Nakamura comes to Fresno State with over 20+ years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. He'll join the Bulldogs after nine years as the head coach of the women's basketball program at Biola University, where he held a 132-113 (.539) career record leading the Eagles. Under Nakamura's leadership, Biola qualified for the Pac West Championship every year they've been eligible (since 2017), achieved a twenty-win-season and was named GSAC Coach of the Year in his second year as head coach.
Prior to Biola, Nakamura spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach at Point Loma. While in San Diego he help lead the Sea Lions to a top-three Pac West conference finish and a playoff victory in the NCAA Regional First Round.
On the personal side, he is an avid surfer, a two-time Southern California master's Champion and spent time on the professional surfing circuit. Together, Nakamura and his wife Franci, have three children; Kealoha, Kalani and Selah-Joy.Â
Nakamura graduated from San Diego State with a B.A. in Psychology and went on to earn a Single Subject credential in Physical Education and Psychology and an M.A. in Education/Physical Education at Azusa Pacific.
