Rudy Barajas enters his sixth season on the Fresno State volleyball staff and his first year as an assistant coach after spending five years as a volunteer assistant.Â
AT FRESNO STATE
Barajas has been a key part in helping lead the 'Dogs to 63Â wins over the last five seasons helping the 'Dogs win 12 games in 2021.
Fresno State tied for fourth in the MW with Wyoming in the spring of 2021 for its second top-four finish in the league over the last three seasons.
Three Bulldogs were named All-Mountain West selections with Desiree Sukhov, Jocelyn Rodriguez being named to the All-MW Team and Amaria Kelley was tabbed All-MW Honorable Mention.
In his second season with the 'Dogs in 2019, the Bulldogs tallied 14 wins and tied for sixth in the Mountain West while three 'Dogs earned All-MW honors.
In his first season with the Bulldogs, Barajas helped lead the 2018 'Dogs to a 22-11 overall record and 13-5 mark in the MW as the team broke the program record for conference wins in a season and finished in 2nd place in the MW for the first time after being picked seventh in the preseason MW Coaches' Poll.

PRIOR TO FRESNO STATE
Barajas has more than 20 years of volleyball coaching experience, having started as an assistant coach at Clovis West for the Boys’ Varsity program. Under the guidance of Bob McCarthy he helped lead the Golden Eagles to three Valley Championships in 2002, 2007 and 2010. In 2000, Barajas became a head coach for Central Cal Boys Volleyball club team, leading the squad to multiple Junior Olympic medals.

Barajas relocated to Bakersfield in 2011 and began his college coaching career at CSU Bakersfield under head coach Jolene Shepardson. During his time at CSUB, Rudy assisted the women's indoor team for two years while also being an assistant coach for the women's beach volleyball team for each of the four years he was located in Bakersfield.
After relocating back to Fresno in 2016, Barajas accepted a position as an assistant varsity volleyball coach for Buchanan High. He assisted with the girls program for three years, helping the Bears become the 2018 Valley Champions. In 2017 Barajas also returned as a head coach for the Central Cal Girls Volleyball club, which qualified for the 2018 Junior Olympics and finished tied for 5th in the USA division.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Outside of volleyball, Barajas worked as a Property and Casualty Claims Adjuster for State Farm for 31 years before retiring in 2018.
A Fresno State graduate, Rudy and his wife, Regina, have twin daughters, Kathryn and Alexis, a son-in-law, Danny and grandchild, Hazel Kathryn Suvanto.
