Greg Gonzalez enters his third season as an assistant coach for Fresno State in 2022.
Announced by head coach Mike Batesole on Nov. 8, 2019, Gonzalez makes his return to Fresno State after being a former Diamond ‘Dog in 2010-11.
The Diamond 'Dogs completed a 20-25 season in 2021 with the Bulldogs going 16-18 in Mountain West contests to finish fifth in the conference.
A pair of 'Dogs earned All-Mountain West honors in sophomore infielder Andrew Kachel who was tabbed first team accolades and junior outfielder EJ Andrews, Jr. picked up second team honors.
The Bulldogs led the nation in double plays per game (1.16) and ranked fourth in the country in double plays (52). The 'Dogs led the MW with 191 walks and 24 sacrifice bunts and ranked second in the conference, 65th nationally, slugging 58 home runs. Their 1.29 home runs per game ranked third in the MW and 35th in the country.
Prior to his time at Santa Clara, Gonzalez coached at Skyline College in San Bruno, Calif., for three seasons from 2015 to 2017 under head coach Dino Nomicos. A former Skyline Trojan himself in 2008 and 2009, Gonzalez won 22 games on the mound, twice leading the state in strikeouts and also earned All-American honors twice.
Prior to his time at Santa Clara, Gonzalez coached at Skyline College in San Bruno, Calif., for three seasons from 2015 to 2017 under head coach Dino Nomicos. A former Skyline Trojan himself in 2008 and 2009, Gonzalez won 22 games on the mound, twice leading the state in strikeouts and also earned All-American honors twice.
He moved on to Fresno State and accumulated a 19-3 record on the mound over the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He earned All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) accolades in both years while also throwing a no-hitter at Hawai'i on April 10, 2010. He earned WAC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2011 going 11-1 with a 1.79 ERA in 16 starts earning All-American honors while being named a Golden Spikes semifinalist.
Gonzalez went on to be drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 15th round in 2011 and played in their system for three years.
He earned a kinesiology degree from Fresno State in 2011 and his masters of science in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports studies from St. Mary's College in 2016.

With the COVID-19 pandemic cutting his first season back at Fresno State to only 16 games in 2020, the Bulldogs went 9-7 with a season-opening series win over UC Irvine, a four-game sweep over Columbia and midweek wins over Cal Poly, Seton Hall and Pacific.
The Diamond 'Dogs powered their way to 23 home runs in 16 contests to rank seventh in the nation in long balls and home runs per game (1.44). The 'Dogs led the Mountain West and ranked 22nd in the country with a .478 slugging percentage.Â
