Fresno - Commonly believed that Sunday is the day of rest, Jill Pearson feels otherwise. On her second-consecutive Sunday during Western Athletic Conference competition, Pearson recorded another hat trick to up end a conference foe.
Down 0-1 to the TCU Horned Frogs (9-7) due to a Jenn Coulson goal in the game?s 13th minute, Pearson tore off three consecutive goals to lead the Bulldogs (12-3-1) to a 3-1 victory and a commanding lead in the WAC standings.
Pearson answered the Horned Frogs? advantage with a strike of her own in the 22nd minute of action. Receiving a pass from midfielder Corrine Atkins, Pearson turned and fired a 20-yard shot to equal the score.
The second and third Pearson goals of the day resulted from Reyna Green?s set-up skills. Carbon copies of each other, both scores came with Green working the ball down the right side and launching a cross to an open Pearson from eight yards out on the left side.
"Reyna?s balls were perfect," Pearson said. "I simply had to redirect them towards goal. She was on today."
The hat trick was Pearson?s second of her career and second in a three-game span. She is now four goals shy of tying Cheryl Gano?s all-time career record of 29.
The Bulldogs will see their next action Friday when they take on UTEP at Charlie Davis Field at 3 p.m.
