Swimming and Diving Team Prepares For Final Home Meet

FRESNO, Calif. - Bulldogs Take Time to Prepare
After a Bulldog victory over the Pepperdine Waves, swimming team focuses their attention on a two week preparation period for Fresno State?s final home meet of the season on Nov. 20. Bulldog diver Lindsay Taunton and diving coach Chunhua Zhao prepare for a trip to Los Angeles where Taunton will be competing in the USC Diving Invitational in Los Angeles. A complete listing of teams Taunton will be competing against have yet to be announced.
Looking Ahead to Final Home Meet
Hosting their final (and second) home meet of the season, the Bulldogs will welcome San Diego State and Pac-10 opponant Oregon State to the Central Unified Aquatics Center on Nov. 20. In a meet beginning at 3:30, the Bulldogs will honor their four seniors Heidi Crompton, Suzanne Dieriex, Krisiti Rietzel and Lori Winn.
Heading into Meet No. 4
The Bulldogs currently hold a dual meet record of 2-1 defeating Pepperdine this past weekend 130-102 in Malibu, Calif. The ?Dogs are off to the best season start in head coach Daniella Irle?s reign at Fresno State fielding times comparable to the 1998-1999 squad?s mid-January times. The Bulldogs made a strong showing at Colorado State two weekends ago in the Early Bird Invitational earning second behind meet host Colorado State accumulating 777 points.
Bulldog Strength Conquers the Waves
After a week of preparation the Bulldogs unleashed their strength defeating the Pepperdine Waves 130-102. Rewriting the season stats for the Bulldogs? was the 200 Medley Relay team legged by Summir Case, Holly Calcote, Kristi Rietzel and Jesie Lewis. The Bulldog relay marked a time of 1:48.72 topping the season best charts pacing three seconds faster than all previous season time. The Bulldogs swept several events including the 1000 Freestyle, the 500 Freestyle and the 200 Butterfly event. ?This was an excellent meet for us,? head coach Daniella Irle said. ?It was a good tune-up for the next home meet against Pac-10 opponent Oregon State.?
Bulldogs Sweep Events
The Pepperdine Waves could not get a swimmer in edgewise as the Bulldogs dominated all three top finishes in the 1000 Free, the 500 Free .and the 200 Fly. Julie Enright took first in the 1000 Freestyle earning a time of 10:40.35 followed by Bethany Starkweather with a time of 10:47.87. Jessica Klenner rounded off the event earning a third place spot with a time of 10:52.80. Rebecca Coplin took first in the 500 Free with a time of 5:07.80 marking her first top three finish of the season and a Bulldog season best time. Following Coplin with a time of 5:13.25 was teammate Sara Quinn and Julie Enright with a time of 5:15.72. The 200 Fly was led by Bulldog standout Temple Cowden who earned her third first place finish of the season with a time of 2:09.20. Laurel Frisinger followed with a time of 2:11.14. Kristi Rietzel took third with a time of 2:14.12. Other individual highlights include a first place finish by Jennifer Brown in the 200 Freestyle as well as a first place finish in the 200 Breaststroke. Heidi Crompton took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.47 as well as placed second in the 100 Freestyle marking a Bulldog season-best with a time of 53.47.
Leading the Attack
Several Bulldogs earned season-best times against the Waves. Among the time-toppers is Heidi Crompton who marked a time of 2:11.47 as she placed first in the 200 IM. Crompton also topped the season-best times in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 53.47. Temple Cowden placed first in the 200 Butterfly with a season-best time of 2:09.20. Rebecca Coplin took first in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:07.80. Coplin?s time marks a new season best for the Bulldogs. Jesie Lewis took second in the 50 Freestyle making a new season-best time with her 24.18 swim.
In Relay Action
The 200 Medley Relay took first place beating the standing season time record by three seconds and earning a time of 1:48.72. Relay members include Summir Case, Holly Calcote, Kristi Rietzel and Jesie Lewis.
