BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Mark Kimbrough scored nine of his career-high 22 points in overtime Saturday to lead the University of Alabama, Birmingham to a 103-99 win over Fresno State in the Hardwood Classic.
Kimbrough's 3-pointer with 2:21 to play in overtime tied the game at 99. Morris Finley gave the Blazers (5-2) a 101-99 lead when he scored on a driving layup off his own steal.
Fresno State's Larry Abney then missed a jumpshot and fouled Kimbrough in the scramble for the rebound. Kimbrough made one of two free throws, then made another free with 5.5 seconds to play to seal the win.
Finley, a freshman who had scored a total of 37 points in UAB's first six games this season, led the Blazers with a career-high 32. He scored the Blazers' final 10 points in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Fresno State (4-5) got a career high 43 points and 11 rebounds from Courtney Alexander.
Alexander, a senior who missed the first six games this season with a stress fracture, scored 24 of his points in the second half. He was held to just two points in overtime and seemed to hurt his hand when he fell on it on a hard foul following his only basket of the extra period.
He missed the ensuing free throw opportunity, as well as an uncontested 3-pointer that would have tied the game with less than a minute to play.
UAB also got 22 points and 11 rebounds from Myron Ransom. Torrey Ward scored 14 and David Walker had 11.
Abney had 19 points and 18 rebounds for Fresno State. Terrance Roberson had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Demetrius Porter added 13 points.
