Bulldogs Finish Day Two at WAC Championship

Fresno, Calif. - Fresno State junior Mahea Enos tallied 4,706 points to take third place in the heptathlon at the WAC Championship being held in Ft. Collins, Colo. The women are currently in eighth place with six points after two events, while the men are fourth with seven points after two events.
Enos headed into todays competition in second place and began day two with a leap of 17-1 1/4 in the long jump, earning 617 points. She then went on to set personal records in the javelin (100-1) and 800 meters (2:32.69), but it was not enough as San Diego States Aja Frary won the title with 5,152 points. Enos also set personal records on day one in the high jump (5-4 1/4), shot put (32-4 1/4) and 200 (25.95). Freshman Jaime Thompson finished ninth in the heptathlon with 3,316 points, setting PRs in the 200 (29.13) and javelin (92-2).
For the men Scott Wenholz was the top Bulldog finisher in the decathlon, placing fourth with 6,727 points. In his first decathlon of the year, Wenholz set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 172-11, the third best mark on the team this season. Freshman Justin Schwartz set a new personal best in the decathlon with 5,595 points, finishing in seventh place.
The championship continues tomorrow with mens and womens field events and preliminary heats in the running events. Bulldogs competing in tomorrows finals include Melissa Price in the pole vault, Sarah Goodlaw in the hammer and shot put, and Matt Drinkwalter in the discus.
