FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State midfielder Jesse Morgan may not have taken a magical potion, but you could say he leads a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde life. On the field, Morgan is all business, but when he crosses the sidelines he transforms into an easy going person.
All seniors are expected to a play a big role on team, but Morgan has a bigger role. At the beginning of the season he was selected by his teammates as one of the two team captains. Along with the other Bulldog captain, goalkeeper Jeff Fluharty, Morgan helps guide Fresno State on and off the field.
"I try to be a good example," Morgan said. "I think I have a very good work ethic. When things go wrong, like they did last weekend, I need to stay strong."
Morgan has learned how to stay strong off the field by keeping things balanced on the field. Midfielders must hard work to create scoring opportunities, but must also hustle back to and stop the opponents from getting any scoring chances.
"My main leadership goal is to help keep things organized," Morgan said. "I'm probably the most vocal person on the field in terms of keeping things organized."
While he may have things very organized on the field, off the field Morgan goes with the flow. Once he leaves the Duncan Building, Morgan is off to cruise around on his beach cruiser bicycle or his a long board skateboard. Morgan's freestyle attitude is not limited to the streets. When he's away from soccer Morgan likes to hop on a surfboard and catch some waves or take a few runs on a snowboard.
"It's something I've always done," Morgan said. "I've always lived by the ocean and when I got home from soccer practice I'd go out and ride the waves."
