Price Finishes Sixth at NCAA Championship

Fresno, Calif. - Senior Melissa Price (Kingsburg, Calif.) concluded her collegiate track and field career today with a sixth-place finish in the pole vault at the NCAA Championship in Boise, Idaho. The Bulldogs other representative in the pole vault, Brooke Lankard (Visalia, Calif.), no-heighted.
Price, the 1998 and 1999 NCAA indoor champion, cleared a height of 12-9 1/2 for her sixth-place finish. Paula Serrano of Cal Poly cleared the winning height of 13-5 1/4. Price holds the NCAA record for both the indoor (13-11 1/4) and outdoor (14-3 1/2) events.
Price leaves Fresno State has the first individual NCAA champion in any sport, and a three-time All-American. She is Fresno States nominee for the Stan Bates Award, given by the Western Athletic Conference for academic and athletic excellence, and is a GTE Academic All-District selection.
The only other Fresno State athlete competing on the last day of the championship was senior thrower Luke Woydziak (Reno, Nev.). Woydziak finished 17th in the hammer with a throw of 195-5.
