No. 1 Fresno State Softball Team Opens WAC Play

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 1 Fresno State opened its 1999 home schedule against No. 17 Hawai'i in WAC play on Monday, Feb. 22. The Bulldogs posted a 1-0 shutout over the Rainbow Wahine to improve to 5-0 and 1-0 in the WAC while Hawai'i fell to 10-3 and 0-1 in league play. Junior right-handed pitcher Amanda Scott went the distance and scattered three hits over seven innings while striking out eight.
The Bulldogs scored their only run in the top of the third after sophomore centerfielder Becky Witt led off the inning with a single before moving to third on a double by sophomore right fielder Kara Campbell. With no outs freshman second baseman Lovieanne Jung hit a sacrifice fly to deep center to score Witt from third.
Junior first baseman Angela Cervantez continues to swing the hot bat after going 3-3 to improve her batting average to .611 and leading the team in hits (11) and doubles (3).
Fresno State continues WAC play against Hawai'i on Tuesday evening, 6:00 pm
