Campbell Joins Fresno State Track & Field Staff

Fresno, Calif. - With the retirement of former Fresno State track and field coach Tom Pagani, the Athletic Department announced the hiring of Chris Campbell as the new throws coach for the Bulldogs. Campbell spent the last three years as the field events coach at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. During his tenure as an assistant coach at Ball State, he had student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships in the hammer and high jump, established four new school records and had a Mid-American Conference individual champion (hammer).
Prior to Ball State, Campbell served as a volunteer coach at the U.S. Navy Academy while completing his master?s degree in education at John Hopkins University. He also served as assistant meet director for the 1989 NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships in Annapolis, Md.
With a Level III certification by USA Track and Field, Campbell also holds a Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
In addition to his athletic endeavors, Campbell completed six years in the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant. In his last military assignment, he was the director of an operations department with 105 sailors and was responsible for the maintenance and operations of 22 training boats. Prior to his stint in operations, Campbell served as navigator and damage control assistant aboard the San Diego-based naval warship, USS COPELAND.
A 1989 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Campbell was a four-year letterwinner on the Midshipmen?s track and field team. A javelin thrower and former school record holder, he was elected team captain his senior year.
