Fresno - In front of 1,818 fans at Bulldog Stadium, Fresno Pacific and Fresno State played a tough physical match worthy of personifying a cross-town rivalry. Fighting to a 1-1 tie, the Bulldogs and Sunbirds battled back and forth tallying a combined seven cautions and 42 fouls.
Emotions escalated during the second half as six of the seven yellow cards came after halftime. Fresno Pacific finished the night with 24 fouls and three cautions, while Fresno State recorded 18 and four respectively.
Limited to only 11 shots on goal, the Bulldogs executed their second corner kick to near perfection during the first half. Dana McGregor?s serve ended with forward Danny Risch heading the ball for the first goal on the evening.
Fresno Pacific rallied in the second half with Juan Carlos Baviche nailing a 25-yard blast to even the score.
The tie marks the third time in the series history the Bulldogs were not victorious. Winning 15 of the 17 contests between the two programs, Fresno State?s last tie with the Sunbirds came in 1970 when they battled to a 2-2 mark in the second game of the series.
The Bulldogs will return to action Friday night when they take on Sacramento State at 5 p.m. on the Hornet Soccer Field.
