Double-Overtime Thriller Ends in Husky Favor
In a double- overtime heated battle, the ?Dogs couldn?t hold off the tournament host Huskies in the final round of the Nike Husky Classic Sunday afternoon. Husky Wes ?The Hit-Man? Hart took the lead for the Huskies scoring the first goal of the game at the 31:53 minute- mark, but the glory wouldn?t last long as Bulldog captain Hugo Alcaraz connected with teammate Noah Delgado to tie things up at the 37:46 minute- mark. The Bulldog?s tying goal was the last to be seen for the next seventy-three minutes of play. The deciding factor came at the 111:20 minute-mark as the Huskies attempted heading a UW corner kick pass into the Bulldog goal. Protecting the net, Bulldog defender Miro Bilaver was handed a red card for slapping the ball away with his fist resulting in a UW pentalty kick. Husky Benjamin Somoza fired the unguarded shot past Bulldog keeper Jeremy Proud ending the overtime suspense.
Bulldogs Fall to Fifth in Far West Pilots
Talent and speed couldn?t get the ?Dogs past the physical Pilots this weekend as they swallowed a 3-1 loss of fluke goals and errors in communication. Hard, direct play preceded the first goal of the game when at the 40:17 minute-mark, a Bulldog defender misdirected a routine pass to keeper Jeremy Proud. The ball soared to the right of Proud finding Portland Pilot Kelly Gray who connected uncontested setting the score at 1-0. The Bulldogs responded to the Pilots with a goal of their own from forward Ryan Katz at the 56:36 minute-mark off an assist from teammate Dana McGregor. The ?Dogs couldn?t hold on for the win however, as they gave up two more goals before the final whistle blew. Pilot Coner Casey found net at the 64:08 minute-mark and again at the 87:35 minute-mark.
Husky All-Tournament Honors Named to the Nike Husky Classic All-Tournament Team were Bulldog defenders Adam Maurer and Bryan Roney along with midfielder Gabe Provenza.
