In a double-overtime heated battle the ?Dogs fell to tournament host UW in the final minutes of the Nike Husky Classic Sunday afternoon.
Husky Wes "The Hit Man" Hart pulled the Huskies into the lead scoring the first goal of the game at the 31:53 minute-mark off of an assist from teammate Dayo Oyetuga.
Responding in similar fashion, the ?Dogs came back with a goal of their own at the 37:46 minute-mark by midfielder Noah Delgado who received a pass through Husky traffic from teammate Hugo Alcaraz. Delgado fired a shot past UW keeper Chad Olsen and tied the game 1-1. The Bulldog goal was the last to be seen for the next seventy-three minutes of play.
The deciding factor didn?t come until the double-overtime 111:20 minute-mark in a Husky attempt to head a UW corner kick pass into the Bulldog goal. Protecting the net, Bulldog defender Miro Bilaver was handed a red card for slapping the ball away with his fist resulting in a UW penalty kick. Husky Benjamin Somoza fired the unguarded shot past Bulldog keeper Jeremy Proud ending the overtime suspense.
Despite the loss, head coach Dave Chesler was pleased with the Bulldog performance and said he felt they played a tremendous game. "The tie at the end of the game didn?t surprise me at all. We are both talented teams and played a great game," Chesler said. "I?ve very proud of what we did out there. We played with a lot of heart and character, but someone had to lose."
Bilaver, who has started all nine games for the ?Dogs, will now sit out the next match-up against San Francisco this coming weekend to serve his red card suspension.
