A Trip to Vegas
The Bulldogs came away with a win and a loss this past weekend in San Jose defeating Cal Poly 223-54 then falling to San Jose State 152-136. As the Bulldogs' record moves to 8-2, 5-1 on the road, the `Dogs prepare to take on UNLV and Air Force in Las Vegas this coming weekend on Jan. 29 beginning at 2 p.m. With only four remaining dual meet in-season competition the Bulldogs are looking to not only improve their overall record, but capitalize on the upcoming tough competition to improve their race times and gain experience for the WAC championships in five weeks.
About UNLV
Undoubtedly one of the toughest teams the Bulldogs will face in dual meet action this season, UNLV boasts a strong sprint brigade that will give the `Dogs a challenging weekend. Coached by Jim Reitz, UNLV made a four team sweep this past weekend defeating UC Santa Barbara 189-101 and San Diego 188-76 in a three-way meet.
About Air Force
Another tough competitor, Air Force is coached by Casey Converse and has been toppling opposing competition. Air Force defeated New Mexico State 88-25 and Denver 68-45 on Jan. 21, then defeated New Mexico State again 88-22 along with earning a win over North Carolina 86-41.
Bulldogs Split On the Road
The Bulldogs won 12 of the 16 events in a 223-54 triumph over the Cal Poly Mustangs and turned out five first place finishes over San Jose State falling to the Spartans 152-136. Several season best times were broken including Julie Enright's 1000 free All-Time Top 5 time of 10:24.50 set last week against UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount. Enright stole the show breaking her own season best time with 10:23.92. Enright's time maintains her fourth place spot in the 1000 free on the Fresno State All Time Top 5 list. Summir Case won the 100 back against San Jose State (58.23), Jesie Lewis won the 50 free (24.24) and Jennifer Brown took first in the 200 breast (2:24.84), a new Bulldog season best swim in the 200 breast. Although the Bulldogs had a solid win over Cal Poly, head coach Daniella Irle said the loss to San Jose was disappointing. The Bulldogs will face the Spartans again in five weeks in the Conference meet and Irle said, "We will be ready."
