MORAGA, Calif. - Fresno State was defeated by Saint Mary's 67-48 in front of 1,022 at the McKeon Pavilion. The loss snaps the Bulldogs' modest two-game winning streak and drops their record to 7-6. The Gaels improve to 8-5.
Mistakes by Fresno State and solid shooting by Saint Mary's were the story of the first half. The Bulldogs committed 20 turnovers in the game's first 20 minutes and dished out only five assists. Meanwhile, the Gaels were shooting 55 percent on their way to a 39-19 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs were able to cut the deficit down to nine with 7 minutes 50 seconds left on two Lindsay Logan free throws. But Saint Mary's sharpshooter Tracy Morris squashed any hopes of an FS comeback when she nailed back-to-back three-pointers on the next two possessions to move the lead back to 15. Fresno State was able to get no closer.
Fresno State was led by Amanda Baker and Lindsay Logan. Both had 10 points. SMC was led by Tracy Morris. She had 19.
Next up for the Bulldogs is a trip to play Cal Poly on Tuesday. FS opens up WAC play on the road against UTEP on Sat., Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. PST. Fresno State's next home game comes against TCU on Thu., Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at the North Gym.
