Women's Basketball Dropped by Cal Poly 69-65

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Cal Poly overcame Fresno State?s 57 percent shooting percentage and a see-saw second half to defeat the Bulldogs 69-65 at Mott Gymnasium. The loss drops FS?s record to 7-7 while the Mustangs improve to 4-8.
Cal Poly took control of the contest early, jumping to a 10-point lead on its way to a 38-32 halftime advantage. Despite shooting 54 percent in the game?s first 20 minutes, the Bulldogs hurt themselves with fouls and turnovers. FS committed 12 fouls in the first half with Tiffany Lewis and Laura Garcia each having three. The Bulldogs also had 15 turnovers at the break on their way to a season-high 30.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair which featured five ties and six lead changes. With 1 minute 21 seconds remaining, Tiffany Lewis made a steal and a layup to tie the game at 65-65. But a CP bucket with 53 seconds left gave the Mustangs a 67-65 lead. After a Fresno State turnover, Jill Hodges hit two free throws with 21.5 seconds remaining to increase the Cal Poly lead to 69-65, which was where the game ended.
Amanda Baker led Fresno State with 17 points. Porsha Boyd tied her career-high with 12 points while Tiffany Lewis led both teams with 10 rebounds. For Cal Poly, four players scored in double figures with Taryn Sperry leading the way with 15.
