FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State wins their third straight Western Athletic Conference match at Bulldog Stadium. Midfielder Jessica Peisch (Fresno, Calif.) scored the first goal of the game and her first of the season to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Minutes later Reyna Green (Modesto, Calif.) scored her first game winner of the season and the Bulldogs second goal before the half. In the second half Midfielder Aimee Thompson (Simi Valley, Calif.) hit a one timer into the back of the net to end the Bulldogs scoring barrage.
Fifty-six seconds into the game the Bulldogs scored their first goal. Jessica Peisch took the ball and dribbled around one defender, and took a shot on the open goal. The diving Tulsa goalkeeper Pam Devore could not deny Peisch from placing her first goal of the season into the upper right hand corner. This season Peisch has started all 13 of the Bulldogs matches and has averaged a shot on goal per game.
Seven minutes later Reyna Green decided it was her turn to score for the Bulldogs. Green dribbled the ball into the box with only the Tulsa goalkeeper to beat she faked to the right corner, but put it past the diving Devore into the lower left corner. Green made a spectacular fake that Devore followed to her left and could not react fast enough to get back to her right side to stop the ball from finding the back of the net giving Fresno State an early 2-0 lead. The goal was Greens first game winner of the season, and her sixth goal of the season. Green has scored a goal in the Bulldogs last two WAC victories.
Five minutes later the Golden Hurricane scored their first and only goal of the game off a corner kick. Midfielder Julie Davidson kicked a high lofting ball twenty feet from the front of the goal straight to the head Marcie Ferguson who put it past Fresno State goalkeeper Mary-tyler Wahl (Riverside, Calif.). Tulsa kept the pressure on Wahl all night long, but Wahl was solid against the Tulsa strikes. Wahl had eight saves on ten Golden Hurricane shots allowing only one to pass.
Ten minutes into the second half Aimee Thompson scored the Bulldogs final goal of the game. Forward Jill Pearson (Garden Grove, Calif.) led Thompson with a beautiful cross that Thompson one touched into the right corner of the goal. Devore never had a chance to react to the goal it happened so quickly. This was Thompson's third goal of the season, and Pearson's seventh assist of the season giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 victory.
On Sunday the Bulldogs face WAC rival UTEP at 1 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium. Currently, UTEP has an overall record of 4-7 with a conference record of 0-2. The two games played in the series between the Bulldogs and the Miners have been ties. This will be their first meeting in two years.
