Men's Basketball Falls to Global Sports 87-74

FRESNO, Calif. - Global Sports held Fresno State to 38 percent shooting and without a point for a key 7-minute 12-second stretch in the second half en route to an 87-74 exhibition victory at Selland Arena. The game result and individual statistics do not count toward season records.
The Bulldogs had problems clicking both offensively and defensively the entire night. They trailed Global Sports by only three with 5:36 left in the first half before a run gave the All-Stars an 11-point halftime advantage. FS cut the lead down to 54-45 three minutes into the second half before turning ice cold, allowing Global Sports to go on a 16-0 run to break open a 25-point lead.
Fresno State began to employ pressure defense as the second half wore on and was able to make a game of it. The Bulldogs trailed 80-72 with 3:32 to go in the game but was able to get no closer.
Global Sports shot well, hitting on 58 percent of its shots, allowing it to overcome its 28 turnovers. The Bulldogs struggled from the floor the entire game, shooting only 38 percent, including 7 of 29 from three-point territory.
Porter led all scorers with 21 points. Chris Jefferies added 18 and nine rebounds while Melvin Ely had 17. For Global Sports, Albert White scored 19 to lead four players in double figures.
Fresno State gets its season started for good on Friday with the Hispanic College Fund Classic. The Bulldogs will play Saint Mary's at 8 p.m. at Selland Arena. The game will be preceded by Game 1 of the tournament, featuring New Mexico State vs. St. Bonaventure. Tip-off for Game 1 is 5:30 p.m.
