FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State wrapped-up a successful weekend by defeating Loyola Marymount 73-21 in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 11. The Bulldogs defeated Cal Poly on Friday, Nov. 10, 153.5-83.5.
After their defeat of Cal Poly, the 'Dogs were not looking for a tough fight from LMU, and they didn't get one. The Lions seemed to be a little afraid of the water as the Bulldogs won eight of 12 events. Sophomore Bethany Starkweather (Plano, Texas) led the 'Dogs against LMU with two winning finishes, the 100 backstroke (1:04.47) and the 1000 freestyle (10:49.66). Senior Lena Darnell (Spring Valley, Calif.) won the 100 freestyle (:54.73). Freshman Julian Hill (Bakersfield, Calif.) won the 100 butterfly (1:00.86), sophomore Jessica Klenner (Mission Viejo Calif.) won the 500 freestyle (5:20.13) and senior Temple Cowden (Redlands, Calif.) won the 200 freestyle (1:58.07). Fresno State also took eight second place finishes in the meet and three third place finishes.
"We swam well this weekend, nothing special, just good solid swimming," said head coach Daniella Irle. "We told the team to just go out there and have some fun racing."
The Dog's take a little break from competition before competing in the Speedo Cup Swimming Invitational on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
