FRESNO, Calif. - After double overtime, the Bulldogs finished with a 1-1 tie versus visiting Denver (8-5-2, 5-2-1 MPSF-M).
Fresno State headed into the match yearning for a much-needed victory. It came close. Each team entered the match with an enthusiasm which was evident in the offensive attack on both ends of the pitch. Denver finished the match with 17 shots, 10 on-goal and Fresno State tallied 22 with six on-goal. In addition, neither team managed a first-half goal. The two goals of the match came in the second-half. Denver struck first on an unassisted goal by junior forward Matt Harrell in the 50th minute of play. Harrell skirted around the Fresno State defense and neatly placed the ball into the bottom, left corner of the net. Seven minutes later, senior midfielder Danny Risch (Clovis, Calif.) earned his fourth goal of the season. Risch tied the match with a touch into the bottom, left corner, as the Denver's netminder stepped out to take away the angle. Denver tallied five saves for the match as Fresno State's sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Proud (Auburn, Wash.) stopped nine.
The tie provided the 'Dogs with an 8-7-2, 1-5-1 MPSF-M record. The team looks ahead to their final match of the season on Sunday, Nov. 5, for a 1 p.m. kick-off versus the visiting Falcons of the Air Force Academy (5-7-1, 2-4-0 MPSF-M).
