TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona jumped to an early 10-point lead and forced 33 Fresno State turnovers on its way to a 92-55 victory over the Bulldogs in the 10th annual Arizona Basketball Classic at McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. It marks the seventh time in tournament history UA has emerged victorious. The win improves the Wildcats to 6-1 while FS's third consecutive loss drops its record to 2-5.
UA put any doubts about the outcome to rest immediately, jumping to an 8-0 lead less than two minutes in the game. The Wildcats' press combined with a very high level of athleticism kept Fresno State in trouble throughout the opening stanza. The Bulldogs were able to shoot only 32 percent in the first half while committing 22 turnovers.
Any thoughts Fresno State had of making of a comeback were squashed immediately when Arizona went on a 15-4 run to begin the second half, taking a 52-25 lead at the 15:12 mark. The Bulldogs were able to get no closer than within 21 the rest of the contest.
Elizabeth Pickney led all scorers with 21 points. Reshea Bristol, named tournament MVP, added 19. Omelogo Udeze led FS with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Lindsay Logan added 12, the seventh time in seven games she has scored in double figures. Also scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs were Laura Garcia and Tiffany Simon, both of whom added 12. Logan was Fresno State's lone representative on the all-tournament team.
Fresno State returns home for its next game, which comes Wednesday against Pacific at 7 p.m. at the North Gym.
