Swimming Finishes 12th of 22 teams at Speedo Cup

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs swam solid performances to take 12th place at the Speedo Cup Swimming Invitational on Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
The 'Dogs finished with a point total of 330.5, 39.5 points over San Diego State and nine and a half points behind New Mexico State. Individually, the Bulldogs scored as high as tenth on a number of events. Senior Summir Case (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) finished tenth in the 100 backstroke (:58.62)and also placed 21st in the 200 back (2:09.66). Senior Temple Cowden (Redlands, Calif.) took the 10th place spot in the 400 IM and grabbed the 14th spot in the 200 fly. Senior Jennifer Brown (West Hills, Calif.) finished 11th in the 1650 free (10:40.73), Senior Jesie Lewis from (Juneau, Ala.) got 17th in the 100 free and Senior Laurel Frisinger (Napa, Calif.) took the number 15 spot in the 200 fly.
The Bulldogs also had high placings in the relays. The 200 medley relay team of Case, sophomore Holly Calcote (Dinuba, Calif.), Frisinger and Lewis finished 10th (1:48.12). The 200 freestyle realy team of Case, Calcote, senior Lena Darnell (Spring Valley, Calif.) and Lewis took the number nine position (1:38.38). In the 400 medley relay, Case, freshman Greer McGettrick (Studio City, Calif.), Frisinger and Lewis took 11th place (3:58.65).
USC was the champion of the invitational with 988 points. Pacific took the number two spot with 845 and Hawai'i took third with 815.5. Fellow WAC team San Jose State was also in competition and finished 10th with 371.
The 'Dogs will rejoin with the diving team Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Central Unified Aquatics Complex to take on Pacific. The meet starts at 11 a.m.
