Women's Basketball Topples UTEP 57-47

FRESNO, Calif. - Tiffany Lewis scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half and Lindsay Logan added eight assists to lead Fresno State over the UTEP Miners 57-47 in the North Gym. The win improves the Bulldogs' record to 10-12 (3-5 WAC) while UTEP drops to 5-16 (2-7).
In the first half the Bulldogs led 14-7 at one point. The Miners then outscored Fresno State 16-4 for the remainder of the half to take a 23-18 lead into the break. UTEP junior guard April Garza provided nine points on 3 of 4 three-point shooting to lead the Miners at the end of the first half. However, the Bulldogs roared back with a 20-4 run to open the second half. Fresno State senior Tiffany Lewis, who scored 18 of her season-best 20 points in the second half, had 10 points in the run.
The Bulldogs put on a strong defensive performance to capture the victory. Fresno State forced 23 turnovers, with Lewis making five steals. The Bulldogs' perimeter pressure caused UTEP to shoot 1 of 9 from three-point range in the second half and 36 percent from the field overall. Fresno State also had a 34-30 rebounding edge as freshman Omelogo Udeze led the team with nine.
Freshman guard Lindsay Logan chipped in 14 points and eight assists for the Bulldogs. Junior forward Amanda Baker had 10 points and seven boards. Freshman Amy Pack led UTEP with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs head to Texas next week to face the SMU Mustangs on Thurdsay. The second game of the trip pits FS against TCU on Saturday.
