Bulldog Men Win Cal/Nevada Championships; Women Finish Eighth

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's track and field team won the Cal/Nevada Championships in Berkeley, Calif. on Sunday by two points over last year's champion Cal. The women's team finished eighth while UCLA took first.
Senior E.J. Jackson (Modesto, Calif.) defended his 100 meter dash title successfully, capturing the victory in a time of 10.65. Sophomore Tierre Sams (Fresno, Calif.) took third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.75. Jackson also won the 200 meters with a time 21.43 and was part of the victorious 4 x 100 relay team.
Senior Tim Padilla (Coarsegold, Calif.) finished fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with his best time of the season, a mark of 9:17.97. Senior Nick Paramo (Lemoore, Calif.) finished fourth in the pole vault and freshman Kyle Carano (Fresno, Calif.) finished second in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 49-3 3/4.
In the women's events, junior Jynette Grayson-Reed (Stockton, Calif.) ran a season-best 54.64 in the 400 meters en route to a third place finish. Sophomore Kayla Russum (Lake Stevens, Wash.) took second in the javelin throw. Also, sophomore Brooke Lankard (Visalia, Calif.) finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 12-3 1/2.
