FRESNO, Calif. - Former Fresno State shooting guard Courtney Alexander was taken 13th in the National Basketball Association's NBA Draft. Alexander was originally taken by the Orlando Magic but was immediately traded to the Mavericks. He was the second shooting guard taken in the draft.
In going 13th in the draft, Alexander becomes the highest drafted Bulldogs player ever. Bernard Thompson, who went at No. 19 in the 1984 NBA Draft.
Alexander led the nation in scoring last year with a 24.8 per game average. He was the first player in the history of the Western Athletic Conference to pull down that honor. The Durham, N.C., native also pulled down WAC Player of the Year honors.
"Dallas is a great city with a great owner," Alexander said. "I slipped in the draft. I was told I was going higher than I did. But, hey, that's the nature of the business. I'm eager to go down there and get started."
