FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team avenged their post-season loss to Cal Poly a year ago with a 3-2 victory at Bulldog Stadium Friday afternoon.
Forward Reyna Green knocked in the `Dogs' first goal less than two minutes into the game with junior Morgan Oliveira on the assist. Cal Poly was held scoreless for more than 20 minutes before scoring two within a span of eight minutes.
Mustangs' forward Megan Shlegel tapped in Cal Poly's first goal at the 23:09 mark. Then forward Sandy Oceguera followed with a shot just over the head of Bulldog goal keeper Mary-tyler Wahl to give Cal Poly the lead.
However, Fresno State battled back to knot the score at two when senior forward Jill Pearson (Garden Grove) broke free for the fourth goal of the afternoon. Junior forward Reyna Green (Modesto) led Pearson with a sharp pass and Pearson then lured Mustang goal keeper Natalia Garcia out of the box before netting the ball in the right corner.
Fresno State secured the game on Oliveira's penalty kick at the 82:46 mark as the ball found net in the left corner.
The Bulldogs improve to 2-1 on the season and will return to action this Sunday when they travel to Reno to face the Nevada Wolf Pack.
