Bulldog Volleyball Takes Third Place in Denver Invitational

DENVER, Colo. - Fresno State (7-4) finished third in the Denver Invitational and ended its three-match skid after sweeping Marshall (15-9, 15-7, 15-6) in its tournament finale.
The Bulldogs, who went 1-2 in tourney action and have struggled by winning just two of their last five outings, were represented on the all-tournament team in senior outside hitter Malia Malu.
In the victory over the Thundering Herd, Fresno State hit .364 (55-15-110) with 39 digs and eight total blocks. Fresno State was led by junior middle blocker Shauna McQuaid who had a match-high 16 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Closs added 14 kills and had four total blocks after hitting a blistering .545 (14-2-22). Sophomore outside hitter Christy Burnett tied for match-high honors in digs (13).
Fresno State will be back in action at home for five straight appearances. The Bulldogs host University of San Diego on Sept. 21, #21 Santa Clara on Sept. 22 and Southeast Missouri State on Sept. 23. Fresno State then closes out the month of September with its first taste of Western Athletic Conference play with #2 Hawai'i on Sept. 29 and league newcomer Nevada on Sept. 30.
