Stanford Wins 19th Annual Nike Goal Rush Classic

The 19th Annual Nike Goal Rush Classic wrapped up its final day of play for the tournament, by crowning Stanford the winner this afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. For the second straight year Stanford won the Nike Goal Rush Classic title. The winner was determined by a goal differential tie-breaker. Stanford finished the tournament with a record of 2-0 and scored 11 goals in the process. However, Fresno State also finished the tournament with a record of 2-0, but only tallied six goals. As a result, Stanford was given the 2000 Nike Goal Rush Classic title. In addition, the four teams collectively selected the All-Tournament team, as well as an Attacking Most Valuable Player and Defensive Most Valuable Player. Listed below are the members of the 19th Annual Nike Goal Rush Classic All-Tournament Team and the MVPs.

The final day of play in the Nike Goal Rush Classic provided for a busy day in the net. Over two games, 12 goals were scored. Stanford accounted for six of them as it defeated Western Kentucky in the noon match with a score of 6-0. The six goals were scored by six different players, all within the second half. Fresno State scored four goals of its own as it went on to defeat Xavier 4-2. Stanford and Fresno State finished the tournament with a 2-0 record while Western Kentucky and Xavier went home with the complimentary 0-2 record.
Xavier and Western Kentucky each resume play on Friday, Sept. 8. Xavier will host Wright State as Western Kentucky hosts UC-Santa Barbara. Fresno State hosts CS Northridge on Sunday, Sept. 10 and Stanford continues soccer action on Tuesday, Sept. 12, as it hosts the University of San Francisco.
