Bulldog Volleyball Suffers First Loss on Season

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State picked up its first loss on the season to Northern Iowa in its second match of invitational play on Friday evening. The Bulldogs dropped a four-game match to the Panthers by the scores of 11-15, 15-6, 5-15 and 4-15.
Fresno State, which goes to 5-1 on the season, was led by junior middle blocker Shauna McQuaid who had a match-high 18 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Closs was the only other Bulldog to have double-figure kills after chipping in 13 and adding four blocks. Defensively, junior defensive specialist Leilua Satele had a season-high 10 digs in the loss.
Northern Iowa had three players in double digits in kills and was led by Kim McCaffrey's 13 kills and 10 digs along with three blocks. Kim Kester and Molly O'Brien also added 10 kills a piece. The Panthers outblocked the 'Dogs 11-6 and had 11 aces while hitting .244. Fresno State hit .130 and dished out six aces and tied UNI with 55 digs.
Fresno State continues invitational play at home when it meets CS Fullerton (2-3) at 3:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 9, before closing out tourney action with Washington State (6-0) at 7:30 pm that evening.
