FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State won both the individual and distance portions of the U.C. Irvine invitational held over the weekend. The Bulldogs finished with 294 points in the individual meet and 166 points in the distance meet.
Freshman Julian Hill (Bakersfield, Calif.) took first in the 200 backstroke (2:08.08), eighth in the 100 backstroke (:59.96), eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.03) and fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.51) as a part of her top individual finishes. Other top individual finishes went to senior Laruel Frisinger (Napa, Calif.) who took third in the 200 butterfly (2:10.77), senior Summir Case (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) who took second in the 200 IM (2:13.51) and senior Jesie Lewis (Juneau, Ala.) who took fourth in the 50 freestyle.
In the distance meet, senior Temple Cowden (Redlands, Calif.) finished second in the 1000 freestyle and third in the 400 IM (4:37.71). The `Dogs continued to dominate the distance meet by taking six of the top 10 spots in the 1000 freestyle, three of the top 10 in the 400 IM and three of the top 15 spots in the 500 freestyle.
UNLV came in second in the individual meet with 229 points and UCSD in third with 137. In the distance meet, UNLV came in second with 101 points and San Diego State was in third with 81.
The `Dogs will stay in Southern California through the weekend, taking on San Diego on Friday and San Diego State and UC Irvine on Saturday. Fresno State defeated all three of those teams this weekend.
