Cross Country Has Weekend Off Before NCAA Regional Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - NCAA REGIONALS
The men's cross country team will travel to Tuscon, Ariz., for the NCAA Regionals at Arizona on Saturday, Nov. 10. Last season Fresno State hosted the meet at Woodward Park. The men's team took 12th place and the women's team took 18th place.
MEN TAKE FIFTH AT WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men's cross country team placed fifth among eight Western Athletic Conference teams Saturday, Oct. 27. Rice claimed the WAC team title with 51 points and placed three men in the top-10. The race winner was UTEP's Bashar Ibrahim with a time of 24:58. Fresno State's top finisher was junior Roosevelt Cook (Oakhills, Calif.) who took 12th place with a time of 26:51.9. Cook earned second-team All-WAC honors. Placing second for the 'Dogs was junior Philip Ogilvie (Clarksburg, Calif.) who took 18th overall with a time of 27:15.2. Junior Roberto Vaca (Sanger, Calif.) finished third on the team and 25th overall with a time of 27:42.2.
WOMEN TAKE SEVENTH AT WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The women's cross country team took seventh place among 10 Western Athletic Conference schools Saturday, Oct. 27. Tulsa took home the team WAC title with 80 points. The women's 5K race winner was Hawai'i's Cheryl Smith who set a new course record at Kaneohe Marine Base's Klipper Golf Course with a time of 17:42. In tradidtional form, Fresno State's top-three finishers were junior Olga Gutierrez (Visalia, Calif.), sophomore Kara June (Santa Maria, Calif.) and sophomore Michelle June (Santa Maria, Calif.) respectively. Gutierrez took 11th place with a time of 18:53 and earned second-team All-WAC honors. Kara June took 25th with a time of 19:26 and Michelle June took 30th with a time of 19:49.
