Swimming and Diving Takes a Breather After Swimming Past LMU

Treading Water
The Bulldogs will take the next two weeks off. Swimming will head west to Las Vegas for the UNLV Rebel Invitational, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, while diving is participating in the Brigham Young Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec.1. The Bulldogs will then not have a meet until Saturday, Dec. 15, when they host Cal Poly, with a dual meet record of 3-2.
Drowning the Lions
The team collected 23 top three finishes, including eight first place times. Junior Jessica Klenner paced the Bulldogs with two first place top spots, after she clocked a season-best 18:00.52 in the 1650 freestyle and 5:19.47 in the 500 free. She earned Swimmer/Diver of the Meet for the effort. Others placing first were senior Jesie Lewis, sophomore Kristi Collins, freshmen Minja Mickelsen, Tawne Fishback and Melissa Johnson. In the 200 medley, Mickelsen, freshman Jessica Baham, Fishback and Johnson together clocked 1:54.32 for second. In the 200 free relay, freshman Jennifer Palmberg, Collins, Johnson and Lewis collectively finished in first place with a time of 1:40.92. The two other Bulldog squads also garnered third place in each of the relay events.
Diving Holding Strong
The Fresno State diving team participated in the University of Southern California Diving Invitational, Nov. 8-10. The Bulldogs' trio composed of freshmen Ashleigh Raley and Lindsay Paulekas and sophomore Nicole Recupito collectively earned six top 20 places. The final day of competition featured the platform event, which was the best event overall for Raley, who led all other Bulldogs. She scored 264.35 to finish in the ninth spot of the 12 divers. She also landed the 15th place of the 25 competitors in the 1-meter dive, with 209.60. In the 3-meter, Raley scored a season-best 341.60, good for 16th place. Paulekas finished in 12th place in the platform (164.85), 16th in the 1-meter (204.75) and 23rd in the 3-meter (179.45). Recupito had her best performance in the platform with an 11th place finish (239.60). She also placed 22nd in the 1-meter (159.20) and in the 3-meter (180.00).
Get Out of the Way
Since the season began, Lewis has been ruling the pool lanes. She along with Raley are dominating their respective events. Lewis has accounted for 12 top three finishes, accounting for four firsts, while Raley has 11, including nine first places. Lewis recently added to her placings at the LMU meet, coming in first in the 100 back at 1:01.63. Raley has also qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships with her score of 275.50 in the 1-meter.
