FRESNO, Calif. -
Watney to Play in Savane College All-America Golf Classic
The Classic will feature 24 of the nation's top college players. The tournament will be Nov. 18-20 at the El Paso Country Club in El Paso, Tex. The Classic will begin on Nov. 19 with 2 rounds of play. There will be a final round on Nov. 20. Each university is awarded a $1,000-scholarship if a golfer competes in the tournament. Nick Watney (Dixion, Calif.) will be paired with David Inglis of Tulsa and Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech for the first two rounds of play.The length of the course is 6,781 yards and the slope is 133. The par 71 course has a 71.3 rating.
Past Champions of Classic
Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Davis Love III (1984), Jerry Pate (1974) and Tiger Woods (1995) have all participated. The Classic has featured 16 U.S. Amateur Champions.
Golf Stat Ranks the Bulldogs 10th
The team has a division record of 268-12. The Bulldogs are in fifth place with 1.830 for putts on Green in Regulation (GIR). Watney is in fouth place with 1.714.
Golf Week Ranks the Bulldogs 11th
Nick Watney is in 30th place with a rating of 70.37 and Jonathan Echols is in 45th place with a rating of 70.66.
Golf Finishes Fall Season
The 2001 fall season of golf has finished. The Bulldogs competed in five tournaments. The team finished in the top five in every tournament of the season. The team placed first place in the Fresno Lexus Golf Classic and in the Pacific Invitational. Watney placed first in the Fresno Lexus and the Aztec Invitational. Jonathan Echols (Hanford, Calif.) placed second in the Fresno Lexus and the Pepperdine Invitational. Ian Nelson (Canyon Lake, Calif.) finished first in the Roadrunner Invitational.
