FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State swimming and diving signed one recruit during the early signing period.
Dana Shaw, a freestyler out of San Jose, Calif., can be found swimming the lanes at the home of the Bulldogs, the Central Aquatics Complex, next fall. Shaw, who currently attends Pioneer High School, and swims for the Almaden Swimming Club, an organization she has been with since she was eight years old. Today, she has personal-best times of 24.76 in the 50 free, 54.87 in the 100 free, 1:57.31 in the 200 free and 5:13.79 in the 500 free. Her swimming coach with the Almaden believes Shaw will be a great addition to the Fresno State program.
"Dana is an incredibly hard worker who should give Fresno State some depth in the freestyle and distance events," said Almaden head coach Gerald Macedo. "She has a bright future to look forward to."
Next season, Fresno State head coach Daniella Irle will begin her 11th year at the helm of the Bulldogs and looks forward to the opportunity to coach Shaw.
"We were looking for a sprinter for next season. Dana has a good mental attitude that fits right into our program," said Irle.
Fresno State hosts Cal Poly this Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Central Aquatics Complex, beginning at noon.
