And the Award Goes to...
Four Bulldogs received conference honors for their efforts this season. Senior Noah Delgado was the recipient of four awards, Third Team All-Far West, First Team All-MPSF, 2001 MPSF Men's Soccer Championship Brine All-Tournament and Brine Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 5. Proud was also honored with the Brine All-Tournament award. Sophomore Justin Sorsabal was honored with Second Team All-MPSF, while junior Kupono Low was an honorable mention All-MPSF.
2001 Banquet Honors
Seven awards were handed out at the annual men's soccer banquet. Receiving the MVP was senior Noah Delgado. Freshman Nick Garcia received the Most Improved Award, while junior Derek Lopez was garnered with the Coaches Award. Also, three academic awards were given on behalf of the coaching staff to the student-athletes. And finally, sophomore Mat Herold was given the Most Inspirational Award. Receiving academic achievement honors were senior Curt Posey, junior Jeremy Proud, and sophomores Nino Rivas and Scott Scigliano. Posey, Rivas and Scigliano also received the scholastic honors as well. Finally, Posey again was honored with the Academic Excellence Award.

If Only
If only statistics could determine the outcome of a match, the Bulldogs would have won every match. For the season the 'Dogs have statistically won the battle. To begin, the team outscored its opponents 31-24 in 20 matches. It also held an assist advantage of 20-15, for a point spread of 82-63. In comparing saves, Proud made 86 to the opponent's 103, which means the Bulldogs are struck on goal more often. In fact, Fresno State was on goal 134 times, in contrast to 110. In addition, the 2001 squad had a slight advantage in the SOG percentage as well, with .441 to .412. All together, Fresno State accounted for 304 shots, compared to 267 shots.

Eleven Bulldogs scored one or more goals this season. Delgado had nine, freshman Forrest Smith and junior Kupono Low had four and sophomore Joshua LeRoy had three to lead the squad.
You'd Better Recognize
Nine underclassmen scored one or more goals for the Bulldogs this season. Leading the way was co-captain Kupono Low, who netted five including a penalty kick and two game-winning goals. He also assisted four times, which was second on the team. Freshman Forrest Smith found net four times and assisted once. Sophomore Joshua LeRoy added three with two assists. Others scoring one goal were freshmen Nick Garcia, Brandon Kwock and Dan Oka, and sophomores Mat Herold, Jeremiah LeRoy and Ernie Vega.

Conference Call
After beginning the conference season with a record of 0-3-2, the Bulldogs managed to redeem themselves with a two-match winning streak in the closing moments of the regular season. With a 1-0 win in Denver and a 3-0 shutout over Air Force at home, the 'Dogs improved to a conference standing of 2-3-2 and 5-6-6 overall. The men finished seventh in the conference and sixth overall. In postseason action, the 'Dogs were 2-1, with wins against Air Force (2-1) and San Jose State (0-0, 3-2 shoot out).
Pac-10, Here We Come
Fresno will join the likes of Stanford, UCLA, California and Oregon State when it joins the Pac-10 next season. The conference change is the seventh for the Bulldogs. The program has been a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Soccer Association (SCISA), the Pacific Soccer Conference (PSC), the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), the Big West Conference, the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and most recently the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).
Head Coach Dave Chesler
Head Coach Dave Chesler (Washington, 1977) is in his fifth season in the role. He returns to lead the 'Dogs with an overall career and Fresno State coaching record of 47-37-16. Chesler came to Fresno State in 1997 from Washington, where he was an assistant coach with men's soccer. Under his guidance, the 'Dogs have had winning seasons three of his four years with the program. Among those, was the 1998 Western Athletic Conference Championship title, which topped an 11-6-5 season. In the 2001 campaign he has directed the 'Dogs to 5-6-6 in-season record and a 2-1 postseason record, with a 2-3-2 conference record.
