No. 33 Women's Tennis Defeats UCSB 6-1

FRESNO, Calif. -- The No. 33 ranked Fresno State women's tennis team cruised past UCSB 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The win improves the Bulldog's overall record to 3-1, while the Gauchos fell to 0-6. Fresno State is now 28-3 all-time in matches played at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center since the opening in 1998.
The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. Fresno State's No. 1 team of Simone Jardim and Courtney Jantz defeated UCSB's duo of Cindy Ammann and Shannon Wilkins. Liesl Fichtbauer and Chantel Wiggins, playing together for the first time since Nov. 11 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 spot. No. 3 doubles Ewa Grusiecka and Kelly Ramirez easily won their match 8-2.
Fresno State was equally impressive in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Jardim, playing in the No. 1 spot, defeated Ammann 6-4, 6-3 to improve her dual match record to 3-1. Wiggins was dominant in a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles in her First singles match of the spring.
The Bulldogs will travel to play No. 8 UCLA on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
