No. 34 Women's Tennis Upsets UCLA 5-2

FRESNO, Calif. -- The No. 34 ranked Fresno State women's tennis team upset host No. 18 UCLA in Los Angeles Friday afternoon 5-2. The Bulldogs improve their record to 4-1, while the Bruins drop to 3-5 with the loss.
The Bulldogs swept all three doubles matches in order to claim the doubles point. The No.1 team of Simone Jardim and Kim Niggemeyer picked up a narrow 9-7 victory against UCLA's top tandem of Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova to highlight the doubles action.
Fresno State won four of the six singles matches en route to their first victory ever against UCLA. All-American junior Kim Niggemeyer, ranked No. 37 nationally, dispatched of UCLA's Catherine Hawley, ranked No. 97 nationally, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot. UCLA No. 2 singles Marinova defeated Liesl Fichtbauer, ranked No. 28 nationally, 6-4, 7-5 in another singles match. Jardim, Ewa Grusiecka and Kelly Ramirez all racked up singles wins for Fresno State.
UCLA was playing without two of their top singles players, Sara Walker and Zana Zlebnik. Both are sidelined with injuries.
The Bulldogs will host Loyola Marymount on Mar. 2 at 1 p.m. in their next match.
