No. 30 Women's Tennis Rolls Past Oregon 4-2

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 30 Fresno State women's tennis defeated No. 51 Oregon 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 with the victory, while the Ducks drop to 2-6.
Fresno State began the day by winning the doubles point, as the Bulldogs recorded victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The No. 1 team of Simone Jardim and Kim Niggemeyer held off Davina Mendiburu and Janice Nyland of Oregon 8-5, giving them a 9-2 overall doubles mark for the season. Chantel Wiggins and Kelly Ramirez defeated Oregon's Adeline Arnaud and Jeanette Mattsson 8-1 at No. 3.
The Bulldogs were victorious at the top three singles spots, while Oregon picked up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. All-American junior Niggemeyer, ranked No. 24 nationally, highlighted singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 drubbing of Oregon's Nyland at No. 1. Niggemeyer is now 11-5 overall and 4-1 in dual match play. Senior Liesl Fichtbauer and Jardim also won their singles matches.
The No. 4 singles match between Fresno State's Ewa Grusiecka and Oregon's Vickie Gunnarsson was at 6-1, 3-6, 2-1 before play was suspended due to rain and the match was officially called.
The Bulldogs will be competing at the University of San Diego Tennis Tournament on Friday.
