Ely Named WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

DENVER - Fresno State cenior Melvin Ely has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week.
Ely, a junior from Harvey, Ill. (Thornton Township HS), averaged 21.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a pair of wins over SMU and Nevada. On Thursday against the Mustangs, he notched his fifth double-double of the year with 21 points and 14 rebounds. He was 8-of-13 from the field and added two blocks and one steal. Yesterday versus the Wolf Pack, he scored 22 points and pulled down four rebounds, blocked three shots and had one assist. In the two games combined, he was 16-of-28 (.571) from the field and 11-of-13 (.846) from the free throw line.
Other nominations included: junior guard Michael McIntyre, Hawai'i, senior guard Mike Wilks, Rice, and senior forward Brandon Wolfram, UTEP.
