#14 Softball Nearly Upsets #2 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 14 Fresno State (31-17) had No. 2 Arizona (43-4) scraping for runs through the first six innings but with a game that saw five home runs hits and extra innings played the Wildcats prevailed with an 8-7, nine-inning win in the night cap.
Fresno State struck early with six runs in the first two innings, including a grand slam hit by junior third baseman Lindsay Fossatti in the top of the second. Arizona answered with a run in the bottom of the second and two in the third before Fresno State increased its lead to 7-3 after four and one half innings.
Arizona chipped away at the Bulldogs lead with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth, which included two home runs, before getting the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth with one out.
Arizona, which belted out 17 hits, allowed a season high seven runs scored. Fresno State, which connected for nine hits, dropped its third extra inning game of the season.
UA's Jennie Finch picked up her second win on the night while Lori Hoffman endured her second loss on the evening.
Fresno State resumes Western Athletic Conference play this Saturday, April 21, 1:00 p.m. against Loyola Marymount.
